Welcome to Migration Museum of Denmark

Migration is a present topic – but not a new history.

As the only one of its kind, the Migration Museum of Denmark focuses on documenting the cultural history of immigration and telling about 500 years’ of migration history – from the Dutchmen in Copenhagen in the 16th century to Ukrainian refugees in 2022. The Migration Museum of Denmark thus puts a current topic in historical perspectives and focuses on people and their personal stories.

The museum first opened its doors to curious visitors in January 2012 after an inauguration ceremony with speeches by the mayor of Furesø Municipality, Ole Bondo Christensen, and the Minister of Equality, Church and Nordic Cooperation, Manu Sareen.

Since then, the museum has continued its effort to document and tell migration history in Denmark. Annually, the museum organises several exhibitions, political debates, talks and other events.
